Need some tunes

What a crazy couple of weeks!  I have been exceedingly busy – not a bad thing – and that’s meant not a lot of time has been spent writing.  But it looks like aside from one small event this weekend, I have little to distract me from getting words on paper.

I don’t know about you guys, but when I write, I like to have music in the background.  Typically, I don’t go for anything with lyrics, since I end up singing along and losing my focus.  Classical is usually the way to go.  In tonight’s line-up, I have some Bach, Saint-Saens, and Bizet.  Mozart may sneak in there later.  He usually does.  Here goes!

Stuck in my head!

Do you ever get a song stuck in your head for days?  That’s where I am right now.  And it’s not even a song I like all that much!  But it’s persistent.

The good news about this?  The song has given me the beginning nugget of a short story idea, so I have my project for tonight.  I’ll get as much of the rough draft slammed out tonight as I can, and we’ll see how it turns out.  After all, if I’m to reach my goal of having three or more published short stories within the next three years, I need to get crackin’.

So it begins!

It was a dark and stormy night…

Well, a dark, drizzly night at any rate.

Good evening, Reader.  As you may have guessed from that opening, I aim to be a writer.  Specifically, a published writer.  It is a goal and dream of mine to walk into a bookstore to find a book with my name on it sitting on a shelf.

But how do I move from this being a dream to being a reality?  As Colin Powell said:

“A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.”

I have the dream, so it’s time to add the sweat, determination, and hard work.  My biggest challenge is finding the discipline to write daily, and it is my intention to use this blog to develop the habit of putting words on paper every single day.  You, dear Reader, might not see all that I write throughout the day, but I should at least be reporting in to let you know I’m putting the ol’ nose to the grindstone.  Writer’s block?  Not an excuse!  Too busy?  Yeah, try again.  If I truly wish to see my name on the spine of a hardback someday, it’s going to mean pushing away the excuses and getting down to business.

So now, before my head hits the pillow and I call it a night, I’m going to add a paragraph to Kajinta, my fantasy novel-in-progress that is just begging to be finished one of these days.  And one of these days is going to be sooner, not later.
